Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 4, 2026
The short version: AskAlf is open source and self-hosted. We don't track you, we don't sell your data, and we don't use cookies. When you self-host AskAlf, your data never leaves your infrastructure.
What we collect on askalf.org
The AskAlf website (askalf.org) is a static page hosted on Cloudflare Pages. We collect:
- Nothing. No cookies, no analytics trackers, no third-party scripts beyond Google Fonts for typography.
- Cloudflare may collect standard server logs (IP address, user agent, request URL) as part of their infrastructure. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
What we collect on demo.askalf.org
The demo is a free, limited preview of AskAlf. When you use it:
- Session data: A temporary session token, IP hash (not your actual IP), user agent, and referrer. Sessions expire after 30 minutes.
- Messages: What you type during the demo session is sent to AI models for processing. Messages are not stored after your session expires.
- Rate limiting: We track session counts per IP hash to prevent abuse (max 5 sessions per IP).
- No accounts: The demo requires no signup, no email, no personal information.
Self-hosted AskAlf
When you run AskAlf on your own infrastructure:
- Your data stays on your servers. AskAlf does not phone home, transmit telemetry, or send any data to us.
- AI model API calls go directly from your server to your chosen AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.) under their terms.
- Federation is opt-in. Cross-instance learning only happens if you explicitly enable it.
Third-party services
- Google Fonts: Typography is loaded from Google Fonts. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare: Hosting and CDN. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- AI providers: During the demo, messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude API. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Open source
AskAlf is MIT licensed. You can inspect every line of code at github.com/askalf/askalf. There are no hidden trackers, no telemetry, no surprises.
